CIO News Week In Review

In this week's edition of news for IT pros, we bring you advice for new IT leaders and insights from award-winning CIOs.

Tips for new CIOs

Enterprisers Brian Beams, VP of Pharmavite, and Stuart Kippelman, CIO of Platform Specialty Products Corp., recently offered advice for new CIOs. From speaking the language of the business, to thinking like a salesperson, these veteran IT experts shared the things they wished they had known when taking their first IT leadership role.

Two more articles in the news this week offer even more tips for up and coming CIOs. Troy K. Schneider asked both current and former agency CIOs to share their insights for FCW and compiled a list of “7 things no one tells a new CIO.” Enterpriser David Bray, CIO of the U.S. FCC, commented in the article, “The CIO role will consume all your waking hours. Being a public-service CIO is not something one can do for eight to nine hours and then head home.... You are 'on-demand' 24/7.”

Justine Brown offered three more tips in CIODive, which focused on building relationships, using analytics to ramp up quickly, and reducing daily clutter to be more efficient. Both new and seasoned CIOs could benefit from the last tip, and our Productivity Hacks can help.
