Sebastien De Preneuf, chief information officer of Glasses.com, believes that aspiring CIOs should be open to new IT business cultures.

"I think, don't take yourself too seriously. CIO is just a title, I think the job is more important than the title. CIO opens doors, and for me, that's it. The level of work that you have to do, keeping your hands dirty and in touch with the industry, is more important than the title.
I believe the second point is build your own culture. One thing that impressed me when I arrived at Glasses.com as a CIO is that developing a company that has a majority of developers vs. a company that has a majority of different types of IT professionals. Do not act the same way. So, react to it, build your own culture, lead yourself and be open to new ideas and keep your feet on the ground at all times."
