Digital education and business transformation

We've discussed at length on The Enterprisers Project the importance of company-wide digital education and the impact it can have on an organization's success in a future transformed by digital technology.

We're not the only ones, and, in fact, CIO magazine had two articles this week that further drive this point home. Tim Hebert, CEO of Atrion, says that the new requirement for today's CIO is to think like both a technologist and a graduate from Harvard Business School. When IT leaders marry their technical acumen with business value, that's when the real transformation happens.

But digital knowledge is no longer just a requirement for IT. Marketing needs it too, especially as CMOs are increasingly involved in digital technology decisions. CIO reporter Tom Kaneshige interviews Avi Levine, executive director at the Digital Professional Institute, about the most common digital challenges facing marketers today.

In an InformationWeek article, Lisa Morgan outlines six ways that data scientists and IT leaders can more closely align with the business to achieve better results. She touches on the potential need for a company's DNA to adjust to today's technology demands, talent retention issues, and legacy technology as key challenges.

As if that wasn't enough to think about, here are a few more things keeping CIOs up at night: Internet of Things, scale, cybersecurity, and the Frankenstack.
