It's a new year, and that means it's time to reflect on where we've been and where the road to disruption may be taking us in 2016. In this week's edition of news for IT pros, we bring you some of the most pertinent predictions for CIOs.

A look ahead

In ZDNet, Mark Samuels provides a short but critical list of the priorities that he says CIOs must make time for in 2016. Not surprisingly, digital transformation and moving to the cloud made the shortlist – these are already likely to be top of mind with IT leaders. Samuels also places emphasis on finding more time for innovation and personal development, as both technology and the demands of the CIO evolve.

For CIOs looking to boost their skills this year, Thornton May highlights three new roles that IT leaders may want to take on in 2016. From shaping strategic conversations within their organizations to navigating the voice of the customer, May outlines the capabilities that will set CIOs apart and position them to lead.
