Kubernetes, which simplifies the management of containers at scale, has become the highest-velocity project in open source history. That doesn’t mean it’s easy to explain in plain English: Maybe people on your team have started talking about clusters and planes, for example, leaving you feeling like you have teleported back to geometry class. Good news: You haven’t. Better news: we have decoded not only clusters and planes but also eight other key Kubernetes terms for you.

Anyone can speak Kubernetes, you need not be a developer. And given the continuing rise of containers and Kubernetes, more people will need to be conversant in it. According to new research report “The State of Enterprise Open Source,” 67 percent of organizations plan to increase their use of containers during the next year.
